Luke 24- Walking With The Word
Dear Sisters in Christ,
"And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself." Luke 24:27
Two men were walking soon after the death of Jesus. They were discussing between themselves, as they walked seven miles to Emmaus from Jerusalem, the extraordinary news that some women had brought to their company today. The news was that Jesus was alive! As they were talking and reasoning this incredible news, Jesus drew alongside them and began walking with them.
" But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him." Luke 24:15
Jesus began to explain to these men, one of whose name was Cleopas, everything from the Old Testament about Himself beginning at Moses and including all the Prophets. A marvelous seven miles of terrific revelation! The Beloved Word revealing Himself to His Beloved Chosen Children. And the Children were sponges soaking in every Word. The men probably couldn't believe how fast they arrived in Emmaus.
When they arrived in the village, Jesus indicated that He was going farther along. But they urged Him to stay with them as it was towards evening. They couldn't and wouldn't let Him go. He stayed with them; and when they sat down to eat, "He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them." In that moment their eyes were opened and they knew Him.
The breaking of the bread. Had they not seen Him do it many, many times before? That single action clued them in. He always thanked the Father before breaking bread for others. He let them "see" His Risen Self for the first time. For He holds the key to revelation. Revelation of Himself! How glad they were that they had urged Him to stay.
"And He vanished from their sight." Luke 24:31
>From "their" sight. He was still there, but their physical eyes could not see Him. However, their Spiritual eyes were now wide open. Watch what happens.
"And they said to one another, "Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?" Luke 24:32 His revelation of Himself in Scripture caused their hearts to pound with excitement. When He began to give them "eyes to see" and "ears to hear" into His Word, then everything changed. Again, watch what happens.

"So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who
were with them gathered together saying, "The LORD is risen indeed, and has appeared to
Simon!" Luke 24:33-34
That very evening hour, they rose up and went back the seven miles that they had just come. Where did they get the energy? Where did they get the strength? I have found that when you spend time with The Word listening and learning from Him, your heart will begin to "burn within you" as He reveals Himself to you in His Holy Scriptures. You will understand just how alive He is, and that He did it "all" at the cross for you. And then you will serve, oh, then you will serve. Just as these two men spent seven miles listening to Him teach and then were able to go back seven more miles (with I'll bet quite a spring in their step), so does the woman who sits at His Feet and listens intently with a learning heart. A heart that will soon "burn" at the revelation of Himself in His Word. With a "burning heart," it is amazing how much one can accomplish while meditating on the Revealed Word of God.
And what was their testimony? "The LORD has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!" They are testifying that Jesus is alive. They are supporting Peter's testimony of seeing Him alive as well. Jesus loves His Chosen Children. He loves them to get caught up in the excitement of Who He is and what He has done for them. His Chosen One. His Bride. All His at the cross.
The Bridegroom is glorified when we take our eyes off ourselves and put them on Him. Eyes that shine in His Revelation. A heart that burns at the thought of Him. Just as those hearts burned while walking seven miles with Him, and then seven miles back, all the while meditating on what He had revealed and taught, especially to them.
This is why I can get up from sitting with Him and get so much done, Sisters. His Revealed Word causes my heart to pound like no other force in all the world. I "rise up" and "run seven miles" meditating on what He has revealed and taught to me especially for the day. Then I come into my Sisters' homes and can't help but cry out, "The LORD is risen indeed!" How I want them to know that walking and talking with Him each day will change their entire life. For He is Life! The Word is burning in my heart. How I pray the same for you.
Love,
Laine
